Walk like an Egyptian
The project started as an imaginary question in my mind: “What shoes do I wish the girls at John Galliano’s Spring 2004 Dior Haute Couture would have worn?”. From this rhetorical starting point the research evolved into looking at 20th century interpretations of Egyptian cultrure, how the West has digested Oriantalism turning it into something over the top and somehow tacky. The result is a hevily embellished sandal featuring all sorts of Egyptian icons with a special spot for the Eye of Ra: A 3D printed heel with a brass plate to attach plenty of chains and charms.
